Fall festival time ... harvest, abundance, wine, food. A time of celebration!
Or is it?
The stock exchanges sink, we talk about recession, people lose their jobs and financial giants are crumbling.
I live in a rural area, and since I have thought in advance about this item last few days, I've been looking forward to the celebrations in writing of the event, wine festival, harvest, and the general feelinggrateful for such wealth. Apple trees from my windows are full of red apples against a contrasting dark blue sky. I can hear the harvesters in the orchard next to continue. The grapes are enjoying the last summer sun, that the conservation of nature as Sweet Sugar that makes our wines so tired.
Traditionally this is the time for great celebration. Here in the Okanagan in south central British Columbia, Canada, life is more or less howalways has been. Late summer is traditionally warm this year, and fruit growers, vineyards and wineries are all the skills to enter the last of the ripe fruit. The grapes are pressed and we all celebrate the Okanagan Wine Festival. The week celebrates abundance.
Here in BC Canada, there are relatively unscathed by the financial and economic chaos that occur in the United States and elsewhere in the world. People lose their jobs, their homes, and their retirement security. People are scared. The news is flooded with the horror of the collapse of a system a. There are vast areas and cities that were devastated by the storms. The suffering is palpable.
It all makes me wonder all this celebration and indulgence and frivolity. It 's a bit like the feeling you get when you are laughing at a funeral. It makes me feel somehow guilty. I just do not seem right. I should be sad, out of respect for those who. Suffer
Yet, life goes on. And I am grateful for that. I am grateful that I live in a time and place that I like all the riches all around me. I want to celebrate the harvest time, the crowd. I want to enjoy the fruits of labor of the peasants - the wine and the food. My friends. My luck.
I will enjoy all the wealth that I have available. It is even more grateful harvest festival this year as I can see that this year, are sovery privileged. I celebrate and make sure that all those who are not as happy as I am this year.
If you are one of those affected by the current situation, I hope you have a small cause for celebration to find.
